Anyone with a yen for Borsht Belt humor mixed with show-stopping burlesque should spend an evening with Nice Jewish Girls Gone Bad. The all-female show will headline at The Grog Shop on June 7.

The troupe, featuring “the gals who learned to smoke at Hebrew School and got drunk at their bat mitzvahs,” is led by Comedy Central’s Susannah Perlman, a.k.a. Goddess Perlman. It is comprised of a rotating cast of edgy Jewish comedians including Sister Schmaltz (Amber Bloom).

“This show ain’t yo’ mama’s Fiddler,” promises the ebullient Perlman in a phone interview from her New York home.

“As the chosen chicks who boldly dare to deconstruct years of tradition,” Nice Jewish Girls turns classics like “Hava Nagilla,” “Tumbalalaika” and “Bei Mir Bist Du Schoen” into their own campy renditions. “We translate vintage Jewish songs into hip-hop, go-go, pop, rock and reggae,” explains Perlman. “Anyone who likes Bette Midler would like this show.”

Due to the raunchy humor, the Pittsburgh-born Perlman recommends keeping the kids at home.

Although the bulk of Perlman’s audience is Jewish, “people who are not Jewish become Jewish during our show; we are very inclusive,” she maintains.
